Iron Man 12:34
I am Iron Man!

about

Jazz bossa nova meets heavy metal rock in this twelve and a half minute cover of the epic song from Black Sabbath.

Composer Steve Messick originally arranged "Iron Man" for a friend's wedding reception dinner, during which a hard rock "Yeeeeeeah!" was heard from a heavy metal savvy wedding guest as soon as he recognized the melody. When Messick and pianist David Franklin founded the New Bop Brigade in 2002, "Iron Man" became the jazz quintet's closing number for their shows in Seattle jazz clubs. This recording of "Iron Man" was made during the recording sessions for the New Bop Brigade's eponymous 2005 album. The track captures the energy and spirit of the New Bop Brigade but has remained unreleased in the Opus Funkus Music vaults until now. The album artwork, created by Mark Forrer in 2013, combines elements from science fiction with hardware from a vintage Conn 10M tenor saxophone.
